Pelletizing Plant

Iron Ore pellets are spheres of typically 6-16mm to be used as raw material for blast furnance

Pelletizing is the process of compressing or molding a material into the shape of a pellet, conventional iron ore pelletizing plant can be classified into two kinds: traveling grate- kiln type and induration furnance type, both two kinds have raw material preparation, pellet formation, thermal processing and pellet cooling stages.

Preparation of raw material

Pelletizing raw material typically contain 64–72% Fe and various additional material adjusting the chemical composition and the metallurgic properties of the pellets. Typically limestone, dolomite and olivine is added and Bentonite is used as binder.

Pellet formation

Pelletizing balling disc will be used to produce 16mm dia. green pellets, oversize and below size pellets will be separated by double deck roller screen, which return to previous stage.

Thermal processing

Green pellets are too week to feed to blast furnance, to make them stronger, traveling grate machine will preheat green pellets and then feed them to rotary kiln for calcination process.

Pellet Cooling

The temperature of pellets that coming out of kiln is up to 950℃, which need to be cooling down to max. 150 ℃, annular cooler will be used at this stage.

Unlike traveling grate – kiln process, induration furnance machine is capable to combine preheating, calcining, cooling process into one machine.
